Alan Kennedy (born 1986 in Glanmire, County Cork) is an Irish sportsperson. He plays hurling with his local club Sarsfield's[1] and has been a member of the Cork senior inter-county team since 2009 when he was called up due to the 2008-2009 Cork Hurlers strike.[2]
Alan Kennedy (Sarsfields)- One of four players from the county champions to oblige Gerald and Cork. Kennedy was still an U-21 in 2008, but wasn't called upon for championship duty by the county selectors.
Cork's captain and most experienced player, Barry Johnston, showed some early glimpses and finished with seven points, six from frees, corner-forward Darren Crowley had his moments and goalkeeper Alan Kennedy brought off two great saves just after half-time from Limerick's Richard McCarthy and Tipperary's Timmy Hammersley, both of whom were a constant menace to a troubled Cork full-back line.
De La Salle had a great chance when trailing 0-13 to 0-12 on 41 minutes, Quirke finding Lee Hayes after a good run, but his shot from point-blank range drew a brilliant save from Alan Kennedy. Paidí Nevin, however, did equalise soon after.
Sars vs Ballinhassig - Pointed frees from Coleman in the 55th and 56th minute (after he again tried for a goal) left only two points between the sides before the game’s final act of drama decided the outcome. O’Leary was given the advantage by able referee Colm Lyons only to see his shot at goal stopped by substitute Ray Ryan. However, a penalty was then awarded (in the 65th minute) and frustratingly for Coleman and Ballinhassig supporters, he again failed to better goalkeeper Alan Kennedy and his supporting backs.
Sars vs Erins Own (Under 21) 5 May 2008 - It was up to the champions to show their mettle. Murphy and O'Connor joined forces at midfield, but it got worse when Murphy added another Sars free. Slowly but surely, however, Murphy ate away at Sars lead, his two frees and two 65s reducing the gap to six points, 0-13 to 0-7, entering the final quarter. However, Sars were still hurling well, with O'Loughlin helping out around midfield. Again Murphy struck for Sars with a glorious free as Erins Own looked for the goal that would give them new life. And they almost got it in the 48th minute when Alan Kennedy made a brilliant stop from Fergus Murphy who had a quiet game.
